As the battle for the New Patriotic Party flagbearership position gathers momentum, one of the aspirants is calling on the NPP National Executives to organize a debate for all the hopefuls.
According to Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, such a debate between all aspirants will help to elevate the discourse and campaigns from a popularity contest to an ideas and policy-based contest.
Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Joy News during a campaign tour in the northern part of the country, the former Press Secretary of President Kuffour noted that a debate will enable the party delegates to identify aspirants who are visionary and principled and can lead the party.
“I will be very happy if the party organizes that so that we elevate the discourse. It is not a charade. It is not a popularity contest and it is not something that you use to mobilize crowds. That is not what we need. What we need are thinking leaders who have values, who have principles,” Kwabena Agyapong explained.
He further reiterated his stance that considering his experience in the NPP and political values, he is the best fit for the party’s flagbearership position as the country prepares for the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
He said, “I do think my life in this political party right from 1991 servicing our candidates till now. I have been press secretary to the President for close to 6 years. The party people, trust me and they love me.”
